The Instructors

The course is run and taught by Neill Slade.

Neill is a fully qualified UKA salsa instructor, who reached the highest level in this qualification. He started very late in dance, breaking all the rules, astonishing many of his teachers, and has become professionally trained in Russian English Ballet, American Tap, and Street Jazz..
Neill has a unique take on teaching salsa, he tries to empower the dancers by giving them the techniques and secrets of how to dance not just teach them to carry out a series of moves.
This the only way for people to quickly master the basic fundamentals enabling them to have lots of fun with this brilliant dance and music that is "Salsa"!

Our team of experienced dancers assist Neill in teaching the course.

Beginners 3 Week Course

We have a series of courses on Tuesday nights designed for absolute beginners, or anyone wishing to improve their basic salsa dancing skills. These courses are friendly, include lots of practicing the basic steps to music, so are a fun way to get fit and give you a great introduction to salsa.  The courses are structured to allow salsa newcomers to focus on core footwork, the concepts of connection, leading and following, and basic moves.

Beginners Classes on Mondays and Thursdays

We also run smaller beginners classes at 8.30pm till 9.30pm on club nights on Mondays and Thursdays starting at 8.30pm.  These beginners lessons are held along with intermediate and advanced lessons.  Once lesson finish there is the opportunity for you to have a go at practicing your moves on the dance floor, with the rest of the evening dedicated to club dancing.
Don’t be shy, salsa dancers are friendly, so ask someone to dance – say that you are a beginner and they will be happy to dance - everyone remembers what it's like to be a beginner!

Tips for Beginners

We all know the phrase ‘practice makes perfect’… well it is certainly helps when it comes to dancing.  Remember what it was like when you learnt to drive a car… how much you had to concentrate on clutch, gears, mirrors, steering….?  But now you don’t think about the mechanics of driving, it just happens.
Salsa dancing is very similar.

Our top tip is to practice the basic steps, and with time you will find you don’t have to think about them. You don’t need a partner to practice with, just put on some music (something with a 4 or 8 beat), and have some fun practicing. Its also great exercise!

To help you practice StrictlySalsa.uk.com have produced a beginner’s DVD, showing the basic steps, and also CDs of salsa music. These are available to buy at the club

Check out the Frequently Asked Questions page - if you have any other questions or queries that are not answered there please feel free to email (info@strictlysalsa.uk.com)or call us on 07894 14997

Dance Shoes

Trainer or fashion shoes are not ideal for dancing; trainers or shoes with rubberised soles stick to the floor too much, making it hard to turn or spin and many fashion shoes with a smooth sole can be too slippery. When you start to learn salsa we recommend that you wear comfortable shoes that you can walk a lng way in. If you fall in love with salsa (as many people do!) we recommend that you purchase dance shoes.

Dance shoes are specifically designed for dancing and have a non-slip suede sole, which gives traction on the dance floor but also enables you to turn or spin easily.  Dance shoes also tend to be lighter weight and more flexible than fashion shoes.  If you prefer a trainer style shoe you can get trainer style dance shoes with ‘spin spots’ on the sole or jazz shoes.

We have a range of ladies and men’s dance shoes available to purchase at very competitive prices. If you have any questions about what to buy then please just ask us!
